State Treasurer Announces Municipal Finance Forums – Fall 2009

Individuals, businesses, and governments alike are feeling the pinch of the downturn in our national and local economy. With this comes opportunity for innovation and creative solutions. For this reason, the State Treasurer’s Office is once again coordinating the quarterly ‘Municipal Finance Forum’ to create a platform for open discussions on the various topics concerning the economy and the State of Delaware.

In good times and in bad, it is crucial to the success of our State that we share information and ideas amongst our municipality leaders and policy makers regarding recent successes and potential pitfalls facing government today. Over the next year, the forum will open discussions on some of today’s most pressing issues in an attempt to find best practices that are effective in navigating the troubled waters that we tread.

We are kicking off this initiative with a presentation on the current economic climate and what to expect as we turn the corner on the road to financial recovery. This first session will be held in Dover on October 14, 2009. We are excited to have Richard Kelly, Economist from TD Bank, to present the conditions of our economy and what to expect as we turn the corner to financial recovery. Richard’s proverbial thumb is on the pulse of Delaware’s economy and his extensive background will provide the necessary insight to generate an effective conversation.
