Delaware Women Take Charge of Their Money
From Purses to Portfolios Helps Plan for Today and Tomorrow
Delaware State Treasurer Jack Markell and Ronni Cohen, Executive Director of the Delaware Financial Literacy Institute (DFLI) welcomed over 1,500 women and men to the second From Purses to Portfolios conference Saturday, October 21, 2006. The conference is part of the "Take Charge Delaware Woman" certificate program which encourages participants to take charge of their financial lives by attending the free financial literacy sessions of the Delaware Money School.
"2004's conference drew about 1,000 participants and I'm thrilled that over 1,500 are attending today," Mr. Markell said. "This fantastic turnout really shows that people are interested in the information and taking charge of their own financial lives."
Although the conference is tailored to address the financial challenges of women, this year's conference welcomed more men attendees than ever.
"We are absolutely thrilled with the turnout of this year's Conference," Ms. Cohen said. "We are even more elated with the commitment of hundreds of women and men to ongoing financial education."
This year's conference featured national and local speakers including Keynote Speaker Lucinda Yates who shared her journey of personal and financial recovery as she traveled from being homeless to a successful entrepreneur. Other speakers included Mary Caraccioli, Conference Coach, and Emmy Award winning Journalist; Ridge Multop, AARP Director of Congressional Relations & Political Affairs; Dara Duguay, Director of Citigroup's Office of Financial Education and author of the books Don't Spend Your Raise and Please Send Money; and Tina Betz, City of Wilmington Director of Cultural Affairs.

The free conference also featured special events, continental breakfast, lunch, exhibits, and door prizes with free bus transportation available to the conference.
