The Delaware Money School, in partnership with State Treasurer Jack Markell, launched a new
web site offering online registration for the Money School classes, useful financial literacy links to governmental, educational, and private organizations, as well as tools to help users make informed decisions about their finances.
"A large part of my mission as State Treasurer is to promote financial education and help Delawareans acquire the know how to make their money grow and work for them," Markell said. "This summer the Delaware Money School is offering over 60 classes on a diverse array of topics. Now, students can register for classes online and maintain a history of classes they have completed."
The Money School's mission is to bring community-based financial education to Delawareans in a hassle-free learning environment. Financial professionals have volunteered to teach classes on subjects that include money management and debt reduction, investing, retirement planning, and managing life changes. Classes are held throughout Delaware and most of them are free.
Alan Cole, Tim Smith and Chuck O'Brien of Delmarva Digital Media Group designed and are hosting the web site. "Recognizing the importance of this program, we volunteered our time to develop and design the Money School site as a way to give back to the community," Smith said. "The more members of our community that become educated about finances, the better it is for the community as a whole. We are glad we could do our part to make this happen."
"I love the fact that I can now register for classes online, receive an email confirmation to remind me of the class, and be able to maintain a history of the courses I complete," Tonya Brady, money school student, said. "I started taking money school classes a year ago and have learned how to manage money and have become a more informed investor. Because of the money school, my nine-year-old daughter now receives an allowance and has opened a bank account."
"This web site will not only serve as a useful tool to students but will also help the instructors, who volunteer their time, manage their courses and student roster in an efficient manner," said Maria Pippidis, instructor for the Delaware Money School.
